Removing my games from the store
Hello
Both Space Battalion Alpha and RD's Project Droid will be removed from Itch on 09/24/2023 due to Unity's new pricing policies since, even if I'm not personally affected by said changes, I can't support such anti-consumer practices.
For those unaware, Unity's CEO (who was fired from EA in 2013) decided that once a game makes more than 200000$ gross revenue in a year and sold 200000 copies (all games currently released affected and already counting), they will take 0.20 dollars, euros, etc. per installation of said game, even from pirate copies, which means some devs will have to pay for them or be forced to implement some kind of drm. What is worse is that we don't know how will Unity keep track of said installations, but many of us fear that our games will carry some sort of spyware. They also want to make Unity almost only online (it can be used for three days offline before needing to reconnect) which means no more confidential projects or surprises. They could even be teaching AIs about how to develop games based on real devs' workflow.
Personally, I've been working on a big couch co-op platformer game for seven long years. I hoped to release during 2024, but due to this horrible practices, I've decided to scrap Unity forever (I can't trust them anymore) redo said game in Unreal. Doing so will take some time, unfortunatly, but I'll release the game one way or another.
IMPORTANT: Anyone who got any of my games will still be able to download and play them, of course.
That's all. Have a nice day.
